Roush Ford compares the New Ford EcoSport to the New Ford Escape

Since the arrival of the Ford EcoSport back in the 2018, customers have been coming into our Columbus location wondering how the smaller model compares to the Ford Escape, which has been a longtime favorite. There haven't been drastic changes for 2019, but there are a few notable updates that continue to make both models appealing to the right shopper. Here's a breakdown so you can research both choices before visiting us at Roush Ford.

The EcoSport has two engines. There's either a 1.0L EcoBoost with 123 horsepower or a 2.0L with 166 horsepower. The Escape has three engines: 2.5L with 168 horsepower, 1.5L EcoBoost with 179 horsepower, and a 2.0L EcoBoost with 245 horsepower. The Escape is a larger vehicle, so it's no surprise it has more horsepower. If you plan on regularly filling your car with people and gear, the additional power of an Escape will make for an easier commute around Dublin. If you're mostly on your own, the EcoSport's options will be powerful enough.

The Ford EcoSport was a brand-new model last year, and next year's Ford Escape is an entirely new generation. For these reasons, engineers didn't update the powertrains for 2019, but that's okay because they provide performance or fuel-efficient savings!

The EcoSport is a great stepping stone for drivers, like those we serve from Grove City, who need more room than a sedan offers, but don't need a ton of additional space. Its short wheelbase also makes it great for drivers who regularly need to parallel park and cannot waste time not sliding into a spot the first time.

On the other hand, the Escape is large enough to be suitable for small families and is appreciated in its segment for its cargo space. Space specs also remain the same for 2019.

Even though the EcoSport is smaller, it's worth pointing out the versatility of the EcoSport's cargo area. There's the tailgate that swings open to the side, and this makes it easier to get in bigger items. The EcoSport also has a nifty cargo management system so you can create a split-level floor. Not only is this helpful for transporting items of various sizes, but you can also use it to conceal expensive things like laptops or cameras.

Because of its entry-level status the EcoSport won't have as many available or standard features as the Escape. For example, the Escape has more advanced safety technologies like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and cruise control. The EcoSport has an available blind spot information with rear cross-traffic alert systems and standard backup camera, but not the other features. If added technological peace of mind when driving around Hilliard is more important, the Escape has more appeal.

Infotainment-wise, the two are fairly compatible. Both can get the SYNC®3 system with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ capabilities, though the touchscreen for the EcoSport is either 6.5- or 8.0-inches, whereas the Escape just offers the larger option. A change for 2019 is that the Ford Escape SE trim, which sits right above the base trim, now has standard SYNC®3. In the previous year you needed to add on the package. A 2019 change we like for the EcoSport is that the heated steering wheel is now standard on the SES and Titanium trims, so you no longer need to add on the Cold Weather package to get this premium amenity that'll definitely stand out in the segment and keep your hands happy during the winter.

Now that you've read this comparison page, we hope you have a better idea of which vehicle is right for you. Still unsure? No worries! Visit our dealership to test drive both options.
